environmentweb top 5 entirely selfish reasons to go green
Whether you consider yourself a bit of an eco-warrior or whether you're wondering if it's all worth the hassle, it never hurts to remind ourselves what the benefits of a greener lifestyle can be - for us as well as the rest of the world!
1. Save money
It's an oldie but a goodie, and there's no doubt it can be true. Start the savings straight
away by switching off unnecessary lights, turning the TV off standby and generally saving energy - all those pennies add up when the bills come in. And as petrol prices go up every time you leave the car at home saves more and more. Even longer term investments such as improved insulation will pay for themselves eventually - and then go on to save you even more.
2. Look good
Saving the world is definitely in at the moment, meaning that eco-chic can help you to look good in more ways than one. From the clothes you buy to the bag you take them home in, and even the makeup you wear while you do it. And lets face it most of the funky reusable bags around look far better than the cheap placcy option any day.
3. Feel good
It's always nice to feel like we're doing something for the right reasons, and being green is no exception. So whatever it is from leaving the car at home, to choosing organic or replacing your light bulbs with energy saving ones, you can be justified in feeling a warm fuzzy glow that says you're doing the right thing.
4. Get fit
It's so easy to hop in the car and nip to the shops, or over to friends, or anywhere for that matter. But just think of how much better it would be for you take a walk over instead, or wheel out the bike. It might feel like hard work at first, but tho
se short trips all add up and you'll be whizzing along in no time. And that's ignoring the stress of traffic lights, tail backs and incompetent road users, which can't do you much good either...
5. Be more sociable
Sometimes the hustle and bustle of modern life can get in the way of really relaxing, so consider switching off all of those distracting appliances and really chilling out. Turn off the TV and invite friends round for a chat. Maybe switch off your email and write a letter instead - when was the last time you received anything that wasn't either a bill, junk, or internet shopping? Or switch off everything and try a romantic candlelit evening with your partner. It certainly can't do any harm.
